Fire Hazards and Blackberries to Food Forest Foundations: Nevada City. CA 2019

After cutting and cleaning all the fire hazards and undesirable trees within the fences, and thinning all the fire hazard fuel ladders and trees within 100 feet of the structures, we placed all the woody material on contour to make Hugelkulture swales.

Just 1 month later!

Using my proprietary fill recipe and one auto-water sprinkler, these fire hazards were made instantly fireproof and quickly transformed into abundant garden beds. We were eating leafy greens within 2 weeks, squash within one month, and tomatoes within 2 months. This was my first trial of this recipe, it was wildly successful, and since then I have utilized this no-dig technique to transform more than 10 other landscapes with 100% success. It was beautiful too! Everyone loved to see and eat this garden :)

1 month after transplanting various veggies from 1 gallon pots that I started in my nursery beforehand, we were harvesting great abundance from the previously dangerous and useless fire hazard mess that was littered across the landscape.
